A laptop and an LCD monitor are the perfect combination for telework
"Single LCD monitor" means that you can take out only the display part of the liquid crystal panel in a notebook PC and use it alone. It can be considered that the When desktop PCs were the mainstream, this LCD monitor was always used in combination, so there are still many opportunities to see it in the company.
When a single LCD monitor is connected to a laptop, the desktop is displayed on both the laptop and the LCD monitor, creating a state called "multi-display" (or dual display when using two like this time). Windows 10 supports the multi-display function as standard, so there is no need to install device drivers or setting utilities.
Multi-display has two display settings. One is a "duplicate" setting that displays the same screen on all monitors. With this setting, the display area cannot be increased, so it is not suitable for this theme. The most recommended thing for telework is the "extended" setting, which displays a separate desktop on each monitor.
If you use the extended setting, the desktop will be displayed on both the laptop's built-in LCD monitor and the standalone LCD monitor, allowing you to use each separately. It is possible to display the document file being created on the notebook PC and the reference PDF file or Excel file on the LCD monitor.
As mentioned at the beginning, when working with a single notebook PC with a small LCD panel, it was necessary to switch between each application from the taskbar and display it. However, if you use a multi-display environment, you can check the materials just by moving your line of sight to the side. It would be a good idea to always display something that requires quick response, such as an email application or a chat application.
In addition, the panel size of a single LCD monitor is large. Visibility is sufficiently high even if the size of characters and icons is not increased with Windows 10 scaling settings. Therefore, you can easily compare and examine various information by arranging multiple materials used in web browser screens and work.
If the space allotted to an individual is small in the office, it is difficult to install an additional LCD monitor that is large and takes up space. However, if you work from home, it is not so difficult to secure enough space to add one LCD monitor. Considering work efficiency, it is one of the equipment that I would like to consider introducing with the highest priority.
For telework, we recommend an LCD monitor with a 24 to 27 inch panel. If you want to use multiple windows side by side, the larger the screen size, the better.
There are relatively compact models of 19 to 20 inches, but the width and depth required for installation are not that different from the 24 to 27 inch models. However, even so, if it is a super large model of 30 inches or more, it will be difficult to secure a place to install it. After all, 24 to 27 inches is just right as a sense of size.
I also want to pay attention to "resolution". There are three types of 24 to 27-inch LCD monitors: full HD (1,920 x 1,080/1,200 dots), WQHD (2,560 x 1,440/1,600 dots), and 4K (3,840 x 2,160 dots).
An LCD monitor that supports 4K resolution can display digital camera images and videos in great detail. This is an LCD monitor that I would recommend for graphics design and work that requires advanced corrections for digital cameras. Also, if you use the scaling function of Windows 10 to set the enlargement setting, you can display smooth and beautiful icons and characters.
Until a few years ago, 4K compatible models were quite expensive and not something that could be easily introduced. However, prices have been dropping recently, and models like the "P2721Q 27-inch wide monitor" can be purchased for 50,000 yen or less (46,980 yen without tax, 42,282 yen in campaigns until February 1). has also appeared. If you value display quality, the 4K compatible model is a highly recommended option.
WQHD/Full HD compatible models with lower resolution than 4K have the advantage of being cheaper than 4K compatible models. Especially in the full HD compatible model, there are many products that can be purchased for 10,000 to 20,000 yen (14,980 yen without tax, 12,733 yen in the campaign until January 25) like the "S2421HN 23.8 inch wide monitor".
It is true that full HD compatible models and WQHD compatible models are less detailed than 4K models. However, there is no problem at all if it is used for document creation, information gathering, digital camera images and videos using general business applications.
What I would like to pay attention to in terms of functionality is the LCD monitor that supports "USB PD". USB PD is an abbreviation for "USB Power Delivery", and it is a function that allows you to charge a notebook PC etc. using an oval "Type-C" shaped USB port. And with recent LCD monitors, this Type-C connector often functions as a display input terminal.
In other words, if you connect the Type-C on the LCD monitor side and the Type-C on the notebook PC side, you can charge the notebook PC and connect the display to the LCD monitor with a single cable. The notebook PC needs to be equipped with a Type-C port that supports USB PD and can output a display, but its convenience is very high.
In addition, the LCD monitor equipped with Type-C also supports the "USB hub" function that allows you to use multiple USB compatible peripheral devices. If peripheral devices such as printers and external HDDs are connected together on the LCD monitor side, those peripheral devices can be used simply by connecting the LCD monitor with a Type-C cable. If you want to take only your notebook PC with you, such as when you go on a business trip, just remove the Type-C cable.
Dell Technologies is working to support USB PD and display output on various PCs, including the new Latitude series and OptiPlex series released in January 2021, and the lineup will continue to increase. It is planned.
Also, the LCD monitor side is also being supported, and in addition to the 4K compatible "P2721Q 27 inch wide monitor" mentioned above, WQHD compatible "P2421DC 23.8 inch wide monitor" (35,980 yen excluding tax) etc. Equipped with Type-C that supports USB PD and display input.
Since it is very convenient when used in combination with a notebook PC, it is one of the functions that you should definitely consider when purchasing a new LCD monitor.
