Let's compare the Fire operating system with the Android operating system. Depending on the application, the Fire tablet may be enough

I care that Amazon's Fire tablet is much cheaper than the ordinary Android tablet. However, Android can't access Google Play, so it's uneasy there.

Amazon.com 's Fire TV and Fire tablets use "Fire OS", a modified operating system based on Android OS that cannot be used by Google's applications and services. Having said that, I'm not sure which applications can be used and which can't be used. This is a good opportunity for me to clarify here.

If you want to install Fire TV or Android TV on your home TV, please check your application and work. For tablets, you may come to the conclusion that you choose Fire tablets over Android tablets or Chromebook. So let me make a comparison.

Video streaming in Fire OS

Google does not develop the Touch Fire operating system, so the use of Google Android applications in the Fire operating system is limited.

For example, YouTube applications are now officially available again for Fire TV, but not for Fire tablets. The same is true of YouTube TV applications, which are used on recent Fire TV, but not on Fire tablets.

Even on the Fire tablet, you can use a web browser to see YouTube and log in to a Google account. However, it is better to use APP. In addition, there is no way to watch Google Play movies and TV shows on Amazon devices, but if it is pre-purchased content, Fire TV can watch it through the YouTube app and Fire tablets can watch it on YouTube.

Streaming services other than Google are also available on Amazon devices. However, there is a difference between the Fire TV and the Fire tablet. Amazon primary video, Netflix, Roku, Hulu, Plex, Disney+ and other applications also support Fire tablets, but Crackle, Sling TV, Apple TV+ and other applications can only be used for bar or box Fire TV. The few unsupported services in video streaming are Kodi and HBO Max as alternatives to Plex (but HBO Go and HBO Now are already supported and you will use them immediately).

Music streaming and various Audio Services in Fire OS

The music streaming service provided in Fire OS is similar to video streaming. Spotify,Pandora,Tidal,Deezer, of course, Amazon Music and other famous places can be used. On the other hand, YouTube Music and Apple Music are not available. However, this means that there are no official applications available. Although it's a bit of a trick, Apple Music is a support service for Alexa and can be played by voice commands from Alexa.

Fire OSとAndroid OSを比べてみよう。用途によってはFireタブレットで十分かも

TuneIn Radio's audio content distribution service is an application for Fire TV and Fire tablets that makes Internet radio stations around the world accessible. With apps with fewer users, such as podcasts, more and more Amazon devices are unavailable.

Let me give you an example. Sonos applications for audio systems can be installed on Fire tablets like regular Android devices, but they cannot be used for Fire TV connected to large-screen televisions. Of course, the number of people using Sonos will be limited. Still, devices made by Amazon do not adequately handle services that have fewer users.

Working applications used in Fire OS

When I had to work outside, I checked to see if the Fire tablet could be used like the iPad and Android tablets. (you can't imagine getting the job done on Fire TV here. Just take a look at Amazon's App Store and you will find that the Fire tablet is the main device for media playback, but is it not suitable for work?

We don't provide applications such as Google documents, spreadsheets and slides, nor do we offer Apple (Apple) Pages, Numbers and Keynote like other Android devices. Nor can you find Microsoft's Word, Excel and PowerPoint (I don't know why, there is Outlook). There are no working applications such as Slack, TeamViewer, Trello, etc. Fortunately, Dropbox and Evernote provide official applications.

There are also ways to work with Fire tablets. With MobiSystems's package called OfficeSuite, you can do a certain amount of work outside the office. However, if you need to use all the commonly used work applications on the road, the Fire tablet will not be selected. At the time of writing, the third most popular free (productivity-enhancing) app in the Amazon App Store was "Instant Live Call From Peter Rabbit" (an app for kids that looks like Peter Rabbit called).

Fire OS games and children's applications

The variety of Fire tablet games is not bad. The main things can be played, such as "collapsing Clan", "Asphalt9", "Stardew Valley", "Garden Landscape", "SimCity BuildIt", "main Craft", "Crossy Road", "Alto's Odyssey", "Monument Valley" and "PUBG". However, most of these games are not available on Fire TV right now ("Crossy Road", etc., with some exceptions).

In addition, "Fortune Night", "Call of Duty Mobile", "the GTA ports", "Thimbleweed Park", "Super Mario Run", "Sky:Children of the Light" and "Temple Run" are not released in the Amazon app store. Although there are more famous games than expected, they are incomparable to Google Play Store's huge set of games.

On the other hand, the Fire tablet is also rich in children's applications. In particular, this is especially true if it is a child model of a Fire tablet with an one-year subscription. You can use applications and games such as Disney, Nickelodeon, PBS Kids, and Sesame Street. Netflix is also available. However, you cannot access YouTube Kids.

Communication and social media in Fire OS

Tablets will not be used for communication like smartphones, but I want Fire tablets to be able to connect (after all, there is no need to communicate and use social media on Fire TV).

There are no Google Duo, Snapchat, Signal, and WhatsApp for Fire tablets (and, of course, you can't use FaceTime). By contrast, Instagram, Facebook Messenger, Facebook, Twitter, Zoom and Skype are more accessible than imagined social media and communication.

Compared with these apps, there are a lot of less well-known apps that cannot be used on Fire tablets. The promising Microsoft Teams is neither for business nor for family. Video chat apps, which are growing in popularity, also don't have Houseparty. However, TikTok also offers products for Fire OS to make short films.

What about the Fire operating system?

If you don't compare the Amazon App Store with Google Play Store, there will be more apps available on Fire TV and Fire tablets than you thought. As expected, there are fewer applications and games than Google Play Store, but there is something famous.

The usage of the application varies from person to person. Video streaming is Amazon's specialty and can almost be covered by Fire TV. However, the Fire tablet has some limitations. Is the obvious difference between Fire OS and Android OS in the "serious" field of work? Even super-famous places are hard to find to improve work efficiency, such as APP.

Social media, chat and games are usually covered. And if you use a smartphone for most of your messaging exchanges, it should be fine even without Snapchat, WhatsApp, and Signal on your tablet (these apps are all restricted so that they can only be used on one. This may be the reason why the Fire OS version does not exist.
