I love using the Amazon Fire TV Stick because I want to enjoy video distribution not only on my smartphone, but also on a large screen by connecting it to an LCD monitor, but I have a problem. It's here. That is, there is a scene where communication becomes unstable. I bought a wired LAN adapter to solve it.
Fire TV Stick's wireless performance is sufficient, and compared to the past, there are many cases where there is no problem using wireless LAN even when receiving videos on a device such as a set-top box. In fact, until recently I had no problems at all. However, after changing the wireless LAN access point and eliminating the distinction between the 2.4GHz band and the 5GHz band SSID, when the 2.4GHz band is used, videos stop when using a microwave oven, etc. has been affected.
I managed to use only the 5GHz band, but this time there were many cases where I could not communicate at all. This is because the 5GHz band has three bands, W52, W53, and W56, but some devices only support some of them. For example, if the main unit that supports W52/W53/W56 is automatically set to W56, the sub unit that supports only W52 will not be able to communicate. The second-generation Amazon Fire TV Stick I use is exactly that, and it often becomes W53 or W56 with automatic settings, and communication is often impossible.
The reason for this is that recently we have been receiving a lot of access points in the nearby 5GHz band. If they are used in W52 first, this will become W53 or W56. The reason why radio waves are coming in from the neighborhood is likely due to the spread of mesh and repeaters, and it is not because the access points are not in the center of the house but near the window, which is the edge of the house. I imagine.
The preamble has become longer, but the way to reliably solve the problem of the microwave oven and the 5 GHz band is to switch to a wired LAN. Fortunately, there is a wired LAN where the LCD monitor is located, so you can use the Fire TV Stick's wired LAN adapter. A genuine wired LAN adapter is also available on Amazon, and the price is reasonable at 1780 yen.
Fire TV Stick stand adapter in a very small boxI know there are genuine products, but what caught my attention was the stand type from Elecom. The Fire TV Stick's usual style is to dangle behind an LCD monitor or TV, but it's shaped like a stand, and you can use any length of HDMI cable.
Because I was worried about them hanging around, it was a little expensive, but I bought the Elecom one when it became cheaper.
The cable comes out from the main unitWhen it arrived, it was very small for a device, and the box was palm-sized. The Fire TV Stick is also small, so it's obvious, but it's still small. It is also lightweight, so it will float when the cable is connected, so it would be better to choose a soft cable or fix the stand itself with double-sided tape.
The cable that connects to the USB port on the main unit seems to be slightly longerThe cable that connects to the main unit's USB port is just the right size in Elecom's photo, but the one I received is slightly longer and the cable bends. , this is unavoidable. An HDMI cable is not included, so you have to prepare it yourself, but since the length required for each person depends on the position of the monitor terminal and the place where it is placed, it is better to prepare it yourself and decide on the right size without waste. At first, I used a cable I had on hand, but I would like to prepare a cable that is just the right size once I have decided where to put it.
The interface is light, including wired LAN, HDMI, and a USB stand for power supply on the back, so if the cable is stiff, it will float. Once connected and turned on, it worked as a wired LAN connection. When the data is flowing smoothly, there is no impression that it is different from a wireless connection, but there is no problem of microwave ovens, or there is no worry that the frequency band of the 5 GHz band will be changed on the cover and communication will not be possible. I've used it for a few days, and it's been working so well that I've forgotten I had an issue with an unstable connection.Normally, the Fire TV Stick hangs behind the LCD monitor, but using the stand keeps the Fire TV Stick clean.By the way, there is no problem with the 5GHz band because even the same Fire TV Stick, "Fire TV Stick 4K", which supports 4K, also supports W53 and W56. I thought about buying a new one at this opportunity, but the wireless problem remained, so I chose a wired LAN this time. If you are in an environment where you can connect to a wired LAN, a stand with a built-in Elecom wired LAN adapter or a genuine wired LAN adapter would be effective for stabilizing video viewing.
