SSR is a technology of US 128 Technology acquired by US Juniper Networks (Juniper) in 2020. Originally, it called itself "AI-driven SD-WAN" using AI, and was characterized by automation and network simplification.
Meanwhile, Mist is a technology from Mist Systems, which was acquired by Junper in 2019. Originally, it is a cloud-type wireless LAN controller equipped with AI, and has a function to analyze logs and solve problems. Since then, Mist Cloud has also supported wired LAN network products such as juniper switches and firewall products.
"When I bought 128 Technology, I said,'I'm going to use AI.' I originally bought something that is very compatible with Mist," said Juniper's Tomotake Waku (Technology Headquarters Enterprise). Architect) says. Shortly thereafter, the cloud service "Juniper Mist WAN Assurance," which combines SSR's SD-WAN operation with Mist, was launched.
By combining SSR with Mist Cloud, AI assistant "Marvis" that can query predictive insights, anomaly detection, automated troubleshooting, service level (SLE), or network problems using natural language, etc. Day The operation after 2 (operation phase after introduction) was simplified and the cost was reduced.
Mr. Tomotake Waku of Juniper (Enterprise Architect, Technology Headquarters)The first of the new features announced this time is to further enhance it and simplify Day 1 (introduction and configuration) operations. Mist Cloud has a zero-touch provisioning (ZTP) function, and you can register with Mist Cloud by entering the code written on the network device or reading the QR code. SSR also supports this full stack onboarding. In addition, a configuration template for SSR has been prepared.
Strengthen cooperation with Mist Cloud and optimize Day 1 operationsThe second new feature is the enhancement of the security package. SSR has a security function in the SD-WAN router. New, IDS / IPS that protects against advanced malicious attacks, and URL filtering that protects access to and from specific sites have been added.
Enhanced security package: Built-in IDS / IPS and URL filtering capabilitiesThe third new feature is the provision of the hardware appliance product "SSR 120 / SSR 130" by Juniper. SSR has been offered as a software product so far, but "there was a request for support along with the hardware," says Wakutoshi. "New hardware appliances can be supported with integrated hardware and software."
There are two series of appliances, SSR 120 and SSR 130. The difference between the two is the number of ports. The SSR 120 has four 1GbE ports and two 1GbE RJ-45 / SFP combo ports. The SSR 130 has six 1GbE ports and two 1GbE RJ-45 / SFP combo ports.
In addition, in the first half of 2022, we plan to offer the SSR 1000 series for data centers.
"Both are hardware that supports speeds of 1 Gbps to 2 Gbps, and have sufficient performance as an SD-WAN router placed at the edge of the base," says Mr. Wakutoshi. As a software product as before, we will continue to support white box hardware and public clouds.
In the announcement in the United States, for each of the SSR 120 and SSR 130, in addition to the normal model, a model with a built-in LTE modem for mobile lines was also included. Regarding this, Mr. Wakutoshi said, "Although it is a little late due to certification, we will also provide LTE models."
